If you have been following this blog for awhile, you may remember this post from April. In said post I let everyone know that I would be teaching 3rd grade for the first time…and while it wasn’t my first choice, I rolled with it and of course everything was fine!

See?? Aren’t they adorable? And the whole year was fine. I was worried for nothing.

Well, fast forward to now. And here I am writing a very similar blog post. Except that this time, I will be moving up to 6th grade! I know that some people recoil in horror at the thought of sixth grade, but I am actually really excited.

And nervous.
And excited.
And butterfliesinmystomach nervous.

But really just excited for what’s to come.

There are a lot of great things about moving to sixth grade:

1. I love love love the other 6th grade teacher at our school! We are good friends and have been teammates before. Plus, she has taught 6th grade for awhile, so she can show me the ropes!

2. I had this class when they were 4th graders. We had a great year and I bonded with a lot of them! Looking at my class list for next year makes me smile.

3. Our 6th graders get to attend a week of outdoor education in the beautiful Colorado mountains, and of course, I get to accompany them! It is a great experience and I can’t wait to do it and blog about it.

4. Sixth graders are a whole different animal! I am so looking forward to their capabilities and sense of humor…and that they can reach things on a tall shelf.

Of course, I can always think of some downsides (I’m a negative nelly, people), but I’m choosing to leave those alone and just look at all the great things ahead!

Even though the butterflies come and go, I am truly looking forward to a brand new experience.

Anyone else out there going through a big change? Any advice from people who have been there? Leave me some comments below!

This sounds like an exciting change for you! The fact that you will be teaching the same grade with such a good friend makes all the difference! I love the other teachers in my grade and know that my days would not be nearly as enjoyable without them!

Congratulations! I think you will love this change! It will be so fun for you to work with many of the same kids you had just a few years ago! Also, I agree with Bethany, getting to work with a partner teacher where you work as a true team can be so empowering!

Good luck to you! I wonder if I can convince my district that my Iowa 4th graders need to spend a week in the beautiful mountains of Colorado 😉

I actually like 6th graders. I have taught them for 3 years, this year was my favorite bunch. So much, that I am moving with them to 7th grade!!!! Now, that makes me NERVOUS!!!!

Your trip sounds fabulous! Can't wait to read about that!
